MANIBELA SETS 3-DAY NATIONWIDE TRANSPORT STRIKE

Transport group Manibela announced a three-day nationwide strike from April 15 to 17, protesting high fuel costs and urging the government to roll back prices to P55 per liter.

Chairman Mar Valbuena said up to 500,000 drivers and operators may join, citing soaring expenses and alleged inaction by the Department of Energy on oil price hikes.

The group also criticized the limited scope of the government’s service contracting program, saying it disadvantages drivers already struggling with low daily earnings.

Manibela further called for the suspension of fuel taxes and slammed DOE Secretary Sharon Garin over her stance on price rollbacks.

Meanwhile, Malacañang Palace urged transport groups to cooperate with government efforts instead of staging a strike, calling the move untimely.
