Dismissed Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes has appealed to the Supreme Court to uphold his certificate of candidacy for the 2025 midterm elections.
He filed a petition challenging Commission on Elections (Comelec) Resolution 1104-A, which seeks to cancel his candidacy.
In his petition, Cortes requests a temporary restraining order (TRO) or Writ of Preliminary Injunction to prevent the resolution’s implementation while his case is reviewed.
The Ombudsman dismissed Cortes for grave misconduct related to allowing an unpermitted batching plant to operate in Mandaue City.
Cortes alleges that his dismissal is politically motivated and vows to pursue all legal options to challenge the decision, asserting that it is a matter of public trust.
