MANDAUE CITY MAYOR FACES ONE-YEAR SUSPENSION FOR MISCONDUCT

Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes has been suspended for one year without pay due to grave misconduct, specifically for the illegal appointment of Camilo Basaca as officer-in-charge of the City Social Welfare Services in 2022.

Mandaue City Administrator Jamaal James Calipayan confirmed the receipt of the Ombudsman’s order and stated that they will seek to reverse the decision through a motion of reconsideration.

Calipayan assured that the suspension did not affect the services of their social welfare office.

Cortes becomes the second mayor in Cebu to face suspension by the Ombudsman this year, following the suspension of Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama and other officials in May over non-payment of salaries.
