MALABON CITY HIGHLIGHTS BEST PRACTICES AT GLOBAL FORUM

Malabon City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete recently presented the local government’s initiatives to enhance resilience and address flooding issues at the Smart Cities Asia Conference 2024 in Malaysia.

His talk, titled “Making Cities Resilient Together: The Malabon City Metro Manila Experience,” highlighted the use of advanced technology to tackle environmental challenges faced by the low-lying coastal city, which is vulnerable to rising sea levels and frequent flooding.

To improve emergency response and urban planning, Malabon has implemented various programs, including the installation of water-level sensors, rain gauges, CCTV cameras, and early warning sirens for residents.

The city operates 50 integrated pumping stations to manage water and prevent flooding, while also deploying “estero rangers” for waterway clean-up and mangrove tree-planting efforts.

Rosete emphasized that building partnerships, engaging residents, and implementing environmental initiatives are essential for Malabon to navigate urbanization and climate change, ensuring a safer future for its residents.
