Makati City expanded the national government’s P20-per-kilo rice program to include public transport drivers and other vulnerable sectors under the “Benteng Bigas, Meron Na!” initiative.
The program, launched at the Makati City Hall Quadrangle on April 14, 2026, also covers senior citizens, persons with disabilities, solo parents, and Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program beneficiaries.
City officials said the inclusion of transport workers broadens access to subsidized rice amid rising food prices.
Mayor Nancy Binay said the city plans to extend distribution to public markets and barangays to reach more residents.
The initiative aims to strengthen food security and provide relief to low-income and vulnerable communities.
