Labor groups have called on Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong to resign after he was appointed special adviser and investigator for the newly created Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), citing a potential conflict of interest.
The Nagkaisa Labor Coalition said Magalong should either focus full-time on the investigation or remain only an adviser to avoid compromising the probe’s integrity.
The group also referenced the 1987 Constitution and a Supreme Court ruling that bars elected officials from holding another public post during their term.
Despite the calls, Magalong affirmed his commitment to stay as mayor while assisting the ICI, emphasizing his dedication to transparency and good governance.
Meanwhile, Malacañang clarified that Magalong is not a formal commission member but will support the investigation with his expertise.
