The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has taken significant measures to tackle its backlog by increasing its license plate production to one million plates per month.
LTO Chief, Vigor Mendoza II, stated, “We now have dedicated machines solely focused on manufacturing license plates for motor vehicles.
Additionally, we are prioritizing the production of motorcycle plates to address the larger backlog in that area.”
With a backlog of 13 million motorcycle plates, Mendoza expressed confidence, saying, “Based on our current production rate, we anticipate resolving the motorcycle plate backlog by early 2025.
Although the volume is substantial, we are confident in our ability to address this challenge and are on the right path.”
The agency is also committed to eliminating the backlog of 80,000 vehicle plates by the end of November.
Furthermore, they aim to significantly reduce the waiting time for new license plates to just 7 to 10 days from the submission of car documents. Currently, the process takes several months.
