LIBERAL PARTY-LIST TO FORM “CONSTRUCTIVE” OPPOSITION TO MARCOS RULE

Liberal Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima announced plans to form an independent minority bloc in the incoming 20th Congress as a “constructive” opposition to the Marcos administration.

This move comes amid a leadership battle in the House of Representatives, where Speaker Martin Romualdez has secured a supermajority, while Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte may run for minority leader.

De Lima expressed reluctance to join a Duterte-led minority bloc and emphasized that her group would focus on issue-based support or criticism of the administration.

Some lawmakers also questioned Paolo Duterte’s capacity to lead the minority due to his low attendance in past sessions.

Despite rumors, de Lima denied any alliance with the Marcos administration, underscoring the bloc’s intent to be a genuine fiscalizer of government policies.
