Mamamayang Liberal Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima advised former President Rodrigo Duterte’s family, particularly acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, after the International Criminal Court (ICC) rejected Duterte’s plea for interim release.
De Lima said the ICC decision was expected, noting that Duterte and his supporters were responsible for statements that influenced the denial.
She advised the Dutertes, especially Baste, to slow down on aggressive statements and actions, including plans for a new drug war in Davao.
De Lima criticized the family’s continued impunity, even with Duterte under ICC custody for crimes against humanity linked to the war on drugs that killed around 30,000 people.
The former senator, who was previously imprisoned on drug charges under Duterte’s administration, emphasized that such declarations only harm the former president.
