Former Senator Leila de Lima announced on Friday that she will not run for public office in the 2025 elections.
Despite encouragement from figures like Senator Risa Hontiveros and Senate President Francis Escudero, de Lima stated that she has other priorities, including advocacy work and supporting the Liberal Party.
She noted the challenges faced by the opposition in the upcoming elections and expressed frustration over the difficult battle despite having qualified candidates.
De Lima, who was acquitted of drug-related charges in June after being detained since 2017, also mentioned that the official opposition slate for the senatorial elections has not yet been finalized.
