Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James will miss the team’s NBA season opener due to right-side sciatica, the team announced.
The 40-year-old was sidelined for the first two preseason games because of nerve irritation in his glute and participated only in limited practice sessions.
Sciatica causes pain or numbness along the sciatic nerve, affecting James’ lower back and leg.
Lakers coach JJ Redick said James will be re-evaluated in three to four weeks, with updates to follow.
Despite the setback, James remains motivated as he aims to play his 23rd NBA season.
