LeBron James will return for an unprecedented 24th NBA season, but he will not be playing for the Los Angeles Lakers.
His departure became official as free agency opened on Tuesday, sending shockwaves throughout the league.
James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, reflected on his time with the Lakers in a post on X, calling it an honor to wear the purple and gold.
His comments came in response to a farewell message from Lakers co-owner Jeanie Buss.
Buss’ post confirmed earlier reports that the 41-year-old forward is leaving the team after eight seasons in Los Angeles.
