Lawmakers in the Philippines are calling for Vice President Sara Duterte to undergo psychological evaluation following her “disturbing” comments during a recent press conference, where she made violent remarks about President Marcos.
Zambales Rep. Jay Khonghun described her threats, including wanting to behead the President, as indicative of instability and urged the Office of the Vice President to seek professional help.
La Union Rep. Paolo Ortega emphasized the need for responsible leadership and accountability regarding her office’s use of confidential funds.
At the same time, Tingog party-list Rep. Jude Acidre criticized her behavior as “childish” and urged her to act more maturely.
Senate President Francis Escudero defended President Marcos, asserting that he is leading well despite Duterte’s criticisms, and pointed out that her remarks are unbecoming of someone in her position.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla also condemned Duterte’s statements, noting they could violate laws against desecration and defamation of the dead.
