LAWMAKERS ADVOCATE FOR INCLUSION OF PH HISTORY IN HIGH SCHOOL

ACT Teachers party-list Rep. France Castro has urged House leaders to fast-track House Bill 207, which aims to reintroduce Philippine history as a distinct subject in high school.

This call comes after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. directed incoming Education Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara to enhance the teaching of Philippine history.

Castro emphasized the bill’s importance in ensuring accurate and comprehensive education about Philippine history for the youth.

Filed by the Makabayan bloc, the bill addresses the removal of Philippine history from the high school curriculum under the K–12 reforms and aims to counter the negative impacts of its absence.

Meanwhile, Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta party-list Rep. Margarita Nograles recommended incorporating the West Philippine Sea issue into the history curriculum to deepen understanding of national territorial claims among Filipino youth.
