Sen. Panfilo Lacson warned that reported frustration within the armed services over the ongoing Senate power struggle could be exploited by “power-hungry” destabilizers if left unchecked.
He said “sketchy” information suggests discontent within military ranks, driven by political tensions, economic concerns, and other national issues such as inflation and rising oil prices.
Lacson noted that personnel up to the battalion and regional levels are closely monitoring developments, but stressed that past coup attempts without civilian backing have failed.
He cautioned that unscrupulous groups could inflame dissatisfaction and trigger wider unrest or mass protests.
The senator urged vigilance as the situation remains sensitive amid broader national political tensions.
