Former senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson emphasized that creating a task force to investigate recent kidnappings is just the first step and that solving the cases is key to restoring public trust in the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Lacson, who is on the campaign trail in Cebu City, praised the PNP’s response to the concerns of the Filipino-Chinese community but stressed that justice will only be served once the perpetrators are held accountable.
He also vouched for the competence of Police Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III and Police Lt. Gen. Edgar Allan Okubo, who leads the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG).
Lacson called for a positive resolution of kidnapping-for-ransom (KFR) cases, citing the recent death of businessman Anson Que as a tragic example of the ongoing issue.
He criticized the removal of Police Brig. Gen. Elmer Ragay, Anti-Kidnapping Group head, asserts that a real solution, not just reshuffling, is necessary to address the kidnapping crisis effectively.
