LACSON CALLS FOR LAW TO PREVENT MINORS FROM ACCESSING SOCIAL MEDIA

Senator Panfilo Lacson has filed a bill seeking to regulate social media use among minors to protect their mental health.

The proposal cites studies showing Filipino minors are vulnerable to cyberbullying, body image pressures, and online harassment, with 60% of children aged 10 to 17 actively using the internet.

Lacson referenced measures in countries like Australia as models for the Philippines to follow.

The bill calls for social media platforms to enforce age verification to prevent minors from accessing these sites.

Violators of the law would face penalties under the Data Privacy Act and other administrative, civil, or criminal sanctions.
