OPM legend Hajji Alejandro, widely known as the “Kilabot ng mga Kolehiyala,” has passed away at 70 after a two-month hospitalization due to Stage 4 colon cancer.
A beloved figure in Philippine music, Hajji first rose to fame as part of the Circus Band and later made history by winning the first Metro Manila Popular Music Festival (Metropop) in 1978 with “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika,” earning the Grand Prix at the Seoul Song Festival.
He enjoyed a career spanning five decades, collaborating with fellow icons and sharing the stage with daughter Rachel Alejandro in recent tours.
His contributions to Original Pilipino Music (OPM) left a lasting legacy, with his songs remaining popular across generations.
His family has requested privacy as they mourn the loss of the celebrated singer.
