The Senate and House of Representatives have approved an additional P3 billion for infrastructure development in the Kalayaan Island Group (KIG) in the disputed Spratly archipelago.
Rep. Johnny Pimentel announced that P1.65 billion will be allocated for the Pag-asa Island airport, along with P300 million for its shelter port.
Another P1.08 billion will be used to fund the second phase of the Lawak Island shelter port.
These projects are part of the 2025 General Appropriations Law, which follows the previous year’s P2.3 billion funding for the same initiatives.
Pimentel emphasized that these new appropriations are designed to further enhance the region’s infrastructure and development.
