President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the ceremonial lighting of the historic Jones Bridge on June 7 to mark the revitalization of Binondo and celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and China.
The event, sponsored by the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Inc., was described as a symbol of enduring friendship and shared heritage between the two nations.
Marcos reflected on Binondo’s cultural and historical significance, encouraging Filipinos, especially the youth, to rediscover iconic streets like Ongpin and Escolta.
The lighting is part of the broader Chinatown Revitalization Project, which aligns with urban renewal efforts along the Pasig River.
The President emphasized that revitalizing heritage sites is key to preserving the nation’s identity and called for collective efforts to complete the next phases of the project.
