Filipino boxing champion Melvin Jerusalem successfully defended his World Boxing Council minimumweight title with a unanimous decision win over Yudai Shigeoka in their rematch on March 30 at the Aichi Sky Expo in Nagoya, Japan.
Jerusalem, who previously dethroned Shigeoka for the title last year in a close split decision, was more dominant this time, with judges scoring the fight 118-110, 119-109, and 116-112 in his favor.
Despite not scoring any knockdowns, Jerusalem showcased his superior skill, landing precise combinations and maintaining relentless pressure on the Japanese boxer.
Throughout the fight, Shigeoka struggled to land clean punches, while Jerusalem’s volume and agility kept him on the offensive.
With the win, Jerusalem improved his record to 23-4, while Shigeoka dropped to 9-2, with both his losses coming against the Filipino champ.
