At least 20 people, including five journalists, were killed Monday when Israeli strikes hit Gaza’s Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, according to Gaza’s civil defense agency.
Media outlets Reuters, Associated Press, and Al Jazeera mourned their slain contributors, with Israel’s military expressing regret and promising an inquiry into what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called a “tragic mishap.”
The incident adds to the nearly 200 journalists killed during Israel’s ongoing offensive, which has also claimed more than 62,000 Palestinian lives since October 2023.
Witnesses described chaotic scenes at the hospital, with smoke, bloodied bodies, and frantic efforts to save the wounded.
The attack drew condemnation from the UN, rights groups, and international media organizations, who decried the targeting of press and medical facilities.
