Former Vice President and incoming Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo called on Congress to pass the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Gender Expression, or Sex Characteristics (SOGIESC) bill during a Pride Month event at UP Diliman.
She emphasized that the bill aims to protect not only the LGBTQIA+ community but everyone from discrimination.
Robredo highlighted Pride Month as a time to celebrate love, unity, and the ongoing fight for equal rights and dignity for all.
She also urged the government to strengthen efforts to address the rising HIV cases in the country, supporting the recent calls to declare HIV a public health emergency.
The SOGIESC Equality Act, filed in 2022, has passed committee approval but remains pending in Congress.
