Senate President Francis Escudero has set a timeline for Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial. Proceedings are set to begin formally on July 30.
The Articles of Impeachment will be presented on June 2, followed by the oathtaking of senator-judges on June 3, allowing for pre-trial preparations from June 4 to July 25.
Escudero defended the timeline, emphasizing the need for careful preparation and dismissing accusations of deliberate delays.
Former Senate President Franklin Drilon supported the schedule, noting that the trial could not start before the Senate reconvenes in June.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives affirmed that the impeachment process is already in motion, with some lawmakers believing it could conclude before Congress adjourns on June 30.
