Mayor Jerry Treñas strongly condemned the alleged assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
In a press conference, Treñas emphasized that violence has no place in democratic political events, regardless of political affiliations.
Expressing concern over the incident, Treñas underscored the importance of upholding peaceful democratic processes, urging respect for differing political views.
He noted the swift response of Secret Service agents in apprehending the suspect, Thomas Matthew Crooks, a registered Republican from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.
Looking ahead to the Philippines’ 2025 midterm elections, Treñas expressed hope that such incidents would not occur, emphasizing the need for peaceful and respectful political discourse to prevail.
