The International Criminal Court (ICC) said Monday it cannot confirm reports that it has issued an arrest warrant against Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa related to the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.
ICC spokesperson Fadi El Abdallah clarified that official updates can only be verified through the court’s communications channels and press releases, noting that the only case currently open is against former President Rodrigo Duterte.
The statement came after Ombudsman Boying Remulla claimed in a November 8 DZRH interview that the ICC had already issued a warrant for Dela Rosa.
Both the Department of Foreign Affairs and Department of Justice said they have not received any notice from Interpol regarding such a warrant.
Dela Rosa, as the former Philippine National Police chief, led Oplan Tokhang, the government’s anti-drug campaign, which human rights groups claim resulted in thousands of deaths without due process.
