The International Criminal Court (ICC) confirmed it was recently targeted by a “sophisticated” cyberattack—its second major breach in recent years—raising concerns over efforts to undermine the tribunal’s mandate.
The incident, discovered and contained swiftly, is undergoing a court-wide impact analysis, with security upgrades already in motion.
The ICC warned that disinformation campaigns and espionage efforts may be used to delegitimize its operations.
Meanwhile, in the Philippines, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is reportedly listening to public sentiment on possibly rejoining the ICC, following a recent OCTA Research poll showing 57% of Filipinos in favor of reentry.
The Philippines withdrew from the Rome Statute in 2018 under former President Rodrigo Duterte, who now faces an ICC arrest warrant over drug war-related deaths.
