House impeachment prosecutors plan to subpoena Vice President Sara Duterte’s financial records to strengthen their case once the Senate convenes as an impeachment court.
The complaint, backed by 215 lawmakers, accuses Duterte of multiple offenses, including the alleged misuse of P612.5 million in confidential funds.
Manila Rep. Joel Chua said the prosecution team would invoke legal exceptions under the Bank Secrecy Act to access relevant documents.
Prosecutors are also coordinating with the Anti-Money Laundering Council and the Commission on Audit to track financial transactions.
Senate President Chiz Escudero confirmed that the impeachment trial would likely begin after President Marcos’ State of the Nation Address in July.
If Duterte resigns before the trial concludes, the Senate will decide whether to continue proceedings, particularly on the issue of perpetual disqualification from public office.
