Lawmakers in the House of Representatives have decided to maintain a budget cut for the Office of the Vice President (OVP) Sara Duterte, reducing its allocation from P2.037 billion to P733 million for fiscal year 2025.
The P1.3 billion cut will be redirected to the Departments of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Health (DOH).
This reallocation aims to bolster programs such as the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations and the DOH’s Medical Assistance for Indigent Patients.
The decision follows concerns about overlapping functions between the OVP and other agencies, leading to potential savings.
A review of the OVP’s operations has been recommended to assess the necessity of its satellite offices.
