Rep. Ferdinand “Dinand” Hernandez was elected senior deputy speaker on Wednesday, replacing Rep. David “Jay-Jay” Suarez, who was moved to deputy speaker.
The leadership shift was approved through two motions by Deputy Majority Leader Wowo Fortes during the House plenary session.
Hernandez, a lawyer from South Cotabato’s 2nd District, is a member of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, the same party as Speaker Bojie Dy and President Marcos.
Previously, Hernandez served as deputy speaker under the Duterte administration and recently chaired the SALN Review and Compliance Committee.
The change comes amid broader political realignments in the House, following controversies linked to alleged budget misappropriations and recent Cabinet resignations.
