The Philippine government will disburse about P27 billion to settle unpaid emergency allowances for healthcare workers, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman announced on Thursday.
The additional funds, to be released on Friday, follow a Department of Health (DoH) request in May for a Special Allotment Release Order and Notice of Cash Allocation.
This amount will cover over 5 million unpaid Health Emergency Allowances (HEA) and 4,283 COVID-19 sickness and death compensation claims for eligible workers.
The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has previously released P91.283 billion for Public Health Emergency Benefits and Allowances (Pheba), covering healthcare workers’ benefits from 2021 to 2022.
Pangandaman emphasized the early fulfillment of this promise, highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting health sector workers.
