The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) will launch a P12.5 billion loan program to help state employees install home solar panels amid rising electricity costs.
The Ginhawa Solar Energy Loan (GSEL) allows eligible government workers with at least three years of service to borrow up to P500,000 at a five percent annual interest rate, repayable over five years.
Loans will also include P60 million in insurance coverage for solar installations against fire, earthquake, lightning, and typhoons.
GSIS President Wick Veloso said the program provides a practical way for members to save on electricity bills while investing in renewable energy.
Applications can be submitted through the GSIS Touch mobile app, and participants may benefit from the government’s net metering system by selling excess electricity back to the grid.
