The government will deploy beneficiaries of the TUPAD program to assist in cleanup and de-clogging operations across Metro Manila as part of preparations for the rainy season and efforts to reduce flooding in the capital.
Executive Secretary Ralph Recto met with officials from the DOTr, DPWH, MMDA, and DOLE to coordinate the initiative, which includes clearing drainage systems, rivers, creeks, and other waterways of accumulated waste and silt.
The effort forms part of the government’s intensified “Oplan Kontra Baha” campaign ahead of expected heavy rains and tropical cyclones.
Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police has placed all regional offices on full disaster response status, activating command posts and strengthening coordination with local disaster management offices nationwide.
PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said police units remain on heightened alert to ensure swift and organized responses to weather-related emergencies.
