The proposed Philippine Building Act seeks to update outdated provisions of Presidential Decree 1096, the current National Building Code enacted in 1977.
The bill covers regulations related to the planning, design, construction, occupancy, and maintenance of buildings nationwide.
Go emphasized the need to review and properly implement the building code to ensure it meets current safety standards.
Additionally, SB 666 mandates structural and fire safety assessments for all buildings completed since 2004, prioritizing those in hazard-prone areas or used by vulnerable groups.
