House Deputy Speaker and Iloilo 1st District Rep. Janette Garin is pushing to restore the government’s Medical Assistance Program (MAP) name and framework, replacing the current Medical Assistance to Indigent and Financially-Incapacitated Patients (MAIFIP).
Garin said the change would reduce documentary requirements and ease the burden on patients seeking financial assistance for medical expenses.
She explained that additional eligibility terms have led to more paperwork for people already struggling with healthcare costs.
The proposed revision aims to simplify access to assistance for hospitalization, medicines, diagnostic tests, and medical procedures while retaining safeguards under Department of Health guidelines.
Garin said the program should help patients meet their medical needs without creating unnecessary administrative barriers.
