Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia denied allegations by Rep. Rodante Marcoleta that he owns 49 offshore accounts, calling it a demolition campaign against him and the poll body.
Garcia has asked the National Bureau of Investigation to probe the claims and issued a waiver on the alleged accounts, stating he has never had foreign accounts.
He highlighted his transparency and dedication to public service, pointing out his modest background and lack of interest in personal gain.
The controversy arose amid the awarding of the automated counting machines contract for the 2025 elections to a joint venture including Miru Systems, which Garcia insisted followed proper procedures.
Garcia criticized the unfounded accusations, stressing their potential harm to the credibility of the Philippine electoral process.
