Senator Risa Hontiveros has proposed that the Senate investigate extrajudicial killings during the previous administration’s war on drugs as a committee of the whole, to encourage victim-survivors to testify.
This follows ongoing inquiries by a quad committee inSarfshore gaming operations.
Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa has offered to lead a parallel investigation but has faced criticism over potential conflicts of interest due to his former role as chief enforcer of the drug war.
Senate President Francis Escudero suggested that a different senator should lead the probe to maintain impartiality.
Meanwhile, retired police colonel Royina Garma has accused Dela Rosa of facilitating rewards for police officers for each drug suspect killed, which Dela Rosa has denied.
