The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued a stern warning against “flying voters,” emphasizing the severe legal repercussions of such actions.
According to Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudianco, approximately 100,000 voters attempted to register twice in 2023, a practice considered illegal.
Laudianco emphasized that registering multiple times with the intention of becoming a flying voter constitutes an election offense.
Offenders face imprisonment ranging from one to six years, loss of voting rights, and perpetual disqualification from holding public office.
The Comelec assured the public of its commitment to pursue and prosecute flying voters, utilizing fingerprint technology to identify double registrants.
The warning comes as the Comelec prepares for the 2025 midterm elections.
