For the first time, Philippine mangoes have entered the Italian market, with shipments from Pangasinan arriving at Rome’s Fiumicino airport.
The Department of Agriculture called this a historic moment, highlighting the strict compliance of Philippine mango farms with Italy’s plant health standards.
The shipment was facilitated by Filipino small business owners in Rome and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce in Italy.
DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. also presented a $50-million investment plan to support 27,000 additional mango farming households by October 2024.
This milestone opens new opportunities for Filipino mango farmers in one of the world’s most renowned food markets.
