FAMILIES OF EJK VICTIMS DEMAND DUTERTE’S LICENSE REVOCATION

Families of victims of extrajudicial killings and human rights advocates filed a disbarment complaint against former President Rodrigo Duterte before the Supreme Court on January 17.

Led by the rights group Karapatan, the complainants argue that Duterte violated the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability due to his actions and statements during his presidency.

They cite his remarks about killings, including admitting to personally killing people during his time as Davao City mayor, as evidence of his unfitness to practice law.

The complaint also includes victims of Duterte’s drug war, who argue that his conduct has shown a disregard for human rights.

The petition coincides with the filing of impeachment complaints against Duterte’s daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, for whom he has volunteered as legal counsel.
