June Mar Fajardo led the San Miguel Beermen to a narrow 111-107 victory over the Phoenix Fuel Masters in their PBA Governors’ Cup opener. Fajardo was dominant with 37 points and 24 rebounds, and crucially, CJ Perez’s four-pointer with just under a minute left extended their lead.
Despite a late push from Phoenix, including a missed four-point attempt by Ricci Rivero and a near game-tying halfcourt shot, the Beermen held on for the win.
In the other game, Scotty Hopson starred in his PBA debut with 46 points, leading Converge to a 127-95 win over Terrafirma.
Hopson’s performance was pivotal in the third quarter, where Converge outscored their opponents 47-18.
