The Philippine Army has declared the end of the insurgency in Panay Island following the recent deaths of several key leaders of communist terrorist groups.
The deaths occurred during a clash with government troops in Iloilo on August 15, which resulted in the fatalities of Maria Concepcion Araneta Bocala and Vivian Torato Teodosio, high-ranking officials of the Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay (KR-P) and Central Front (CF).
The Army also discovered the body of Vicente Hinojales, KR-P’s regional secretary, on the same day.
Over the past month, the Army engaged in multiple encounters with the rebels, leading to the neutralization of ten members and the recovery of numerous firearms.
Military officials are now calling for the remaining rebels to surrender and embrace peace, as they work towards declaring Panay Island stable by September.
