President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has named Elizer Salilig, a seasoned fisheries manager with 34 years of experience, as the new national director of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
Previously the regional director for BFAR in Mimaropa, Salilig pledged to enhance food security, support fisherfolk, and strengthen the aquaculture industry.
He focused on sustainable fisheries practices and collaboration with government agencies and academic institutions to boost research and development.
Salilig’s appointment is seen as a move to restore trust in BFAR following recent controversies.
He aims to align the agency’s goals with the President’s vision of improving productivity and uplifting the standard of living for fisherfolk.
