Senate Deputy Majority Leader Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito has called for urgent action to address the “dangerous disconnect” in the management of the country’s water resources.
He criticized the lack of coordination between flood control projects and agencies with technical expertise, such as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Ejercito noted that many projects prioritize diverting water to the sea instead of storing or reusing it during dry seasons, highlighting inefficiencies that worsen water scarcity.
He warned that without science-based planning, anomalous infrastructure projects will continue, driven by individual discretion rather than technical guidance.
The senator renewed his push for a Department of Water Resources Management to ensure coordinated, sustainable water management and prevent mismanagement nationwide.
