Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito has urged authorities to postpone the full rehabilitation of EDSA, cautioning it could worsen traffic and harm the country’s economy.
He recommends completing the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) and Metro Manila Subway System first before starting the EDSA project.
Ejercito expressed concern that an economic impact assessment may reveal short-term drawbacks to the rehabilitation.
He explained that having the railway lines operational first would ease commuter movement and potentially reduce car volume on EDSA.
Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation said the NSCR’s full operation could be delayed until 2031, and Ejercito warned that current traffic measures might already lead to a “hellish” situation in Metro Manila.
