DUTERTE YOUTH FILES SUPREME COURT PETITION OVER COMELEC’S PROCLAMATION DELAY

The Duterte Youth party-list group has filed a petition with the Supreme Court accusing the Commission on Elections (Comelec) of grave abuse of discretion for failing to proclaim their victory in the recent party-list race.

Despite receiving the second highest number of votes with over 2.3 million, their proclamation was suspended due to a 2019 disqualification case filed by Kabataan Party-list alleging misrepresentation.

Duterte Youth chairman Ronald Cardema denied the allegations, questioning why the Comelec allowed them to assume office in previous elections if the charges were serious.

Cardema accused Comelec of delaying their proclamation to subvert the will of millions of voters and called the accusations “manufactured.”

The case also includes claims that the group is not a registered party, engaged in vote buying, and promoted violence, all of which Duterte Youth denies.
