Former President Rodrigo Duterte has expressed his willingness to attend the House of Representatives’ quad committee hearings on extrajudicial killings if invited.
Duterte, in a conversation with former legal adviser Salvador Panelo, stated that he is ready to answer all questions and clarify his actions during the drug war.
He denied the existence of a reward scheme for killing drug suspects, explaining that he only provided operational funds and treated officers to meals for mission accomplishments.
Duterte emphasized that his orders were to arrest suspects unless officers’ lives were in danger, in which case they were justified in using deadly force.
He acknowledged that former allies testifying against him are part of the nature of temporary alliances and fragile friendships.
