Former president Rodrigo Duterte has urged his supporters to avoid commenting on the legalities of his case before the International Criminal Court (ICC) and to leave the matter to the lawyers and the court.
His daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, reiterated this request while addressing supporters outside the ICC detention facility in The Hague.
Recently, pro-Duterte groups, including several senators, have criticized the legality of his arrest and detention, while fake news and deepfakes targeting ICC prosecutors and judges have circulated on social media.
Vice President Duterte also commented on the possibility of a freeze order on her assets, stating it was unlikely but not impossible, and viewed it as a potential form of harassment.
Malacañang has clarified that the Philippine government has no obligation to comply with any ICC-related asset freeze, following the country’s withdrawal from the ICC’s Rome Statute in 2019.
