The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has cautioned consumers against buying substandard Christmas lights this holiday season.
The DTI emphasized the importance of being cautious when purchasing Christmas lights that have not undergone proper testing, as they could pose a safety risk.
The DTI also advises consumers to verify that a store is registered with the agency and ensure the Christmas lights have an import commodity clearance (ICC) sticker or a Philippine Standard (PS) for quality and safety marks before making a purchase.
The same level of scrutiny applies to online purchases, where customers can refer to customer reviews to assess the product’s quality.
The DTI is also monitoring stores that sell homemade Christmas lanterns to ensure compliance with safety standards. Additionally, even if the Christmas lights are certified, the DTI advises Filipinos to avoid overusing them.
