DSWD TO PILOT UNIFIED ID SYSTEM FOR PWDS STARTING OCTOBER

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will begin piloting its unified ID system for persons with disabilities (PWDs) in 35 local government units starting this October to combat fake PWD IDs.

The system, developed with the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA), is currently undergoing technical testing and will involve around 200,000 PWDs in the pilot phase.

LGUs will handle ID applications and approvals through their Persons with Disability Affairs Offices, while the NCDA will oversee the printing and design of the IDs.

The new ID features a QR code for security and will be integrated with the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) for easier identity validation.

The system includes traceability features to detect irregularities, allowing authorities to deactivate suspicious IDs and ensure only authorized personnel approve applications.
